Trade Adjustment Assistance
Help your workers with Trade Adjustment Assistance
If your company has had to lay off workers or reduce their hours due to competition from foreign trade, you can help your affected workers during this transition with Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). TAA gives trade-affected workers the opportunity to get the skills, resources, and support they need to find suitable work as quickly as possible.
And there's no cost to employers or workers.
How do I apply?
Usually the employer submits a petition for eligibility. If the employer doesn't apply, a group of two or more workers or their union may apply. You must apply within a year of a trade-related layoff or work reduction. The sooner you apply, the sooner we can start helping your employees prepare for new career opportunities.
If the US Department of Labor's investigation finds that jobs at your company were lost or threatened due to trade-related circumstances, your company will be certified as "TAA eligible." The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development will notify your workers that they are eligible for benefits and services under this program
